Outlander

Don’t even ask me how I ended up watching Outlander at first, because I can’t figure it out. The last thing I remember was thinking “that looks pretty corny and a bit B-grade so I don’t think I’ll bother,” and somehow since then I’ve watched every episode made (half a season) and I can’t stop thinking about it.

The story is about an English woman who is travelling with her husband in the Scottish Highlands at the end of WWII, when she steps through some standing stones and finds herself stranded and alone in the middle of the 18th Century.

I know. I KNOW it sounds corny but it is SO good. A bit slow to start, but after a while you don’t even mind the slow pace, it’s like this show takes the time to respect the characters and the viewers and build the suspense and action properly.

There’s no way I can wait until half way through next year for more of Claire’s adventures, so now I’m reading the first book. Again, SUPER addicted. As soon as I finish writing this post I’m going to pick the book back up again, because I’m in the middle of a really good bit and it is quite important that I find out what comes next!

Also, I really need to visit Scotland.

What have you been watching and reading lately? Have you read the Outlander books? No spoilers please!!!

My partner and I bought read the whole series a couple of years ago and were totally addicted too:) He is Scottish so loved them to bits. When I heard there was a series I was a bit sceptical but have heard great reports about it. Have fun with the series, the characters get under your skin and into your heart.

Ooh I’m glad to hear the books continue as good as they’ve started. I think you will like the show. I think it does the books justice.

A friend told me about the TV series, which I have not watched, but like you she said she can’t stop thinking about it. So I bought the book, which arrived in the mail this morning and I was just looking at it and wondering if I will like it when your blog post arrived in my email! What a coincidence. Bit excited to get stuck into it now!

After reading the first three books in that Outlander series, It was with a mixture of anticipation and dread, that I watched the TV series adaptation. We all know how much of an epic fail, movies and TV series of books can be? Diana’s books are a great read and thankfully, I think the TV series does do them justice. Phew!! Enjoy!

That’s good to hear Romana. I’m still only on book 1 but really enjoying it. Glad to hear you recommend them AND that you feel the TV show does them justice!

I must be living under a rock because I’ve neither heard of the books nor TV show. I am intrigued now and will have to follow up. Anything to do with Scotland piques my interest.

I’d never heard of it either, though the first book was written in the 90s. The show is only very new – I don’t think they’ve finished filming the first season yet. Definitely recommend you take a look/read. (The scenic backdrop to the show is stunning)

I’m so in love with Outlander and when I hit the last episode for the season, I was all “NOOOOOOO!” Eight episodes? REALLY? I’ve never read the books but plan to, and obviously I’m drowning in the need to get back to Scotland. (If only I could find a handsome single man like Jamie…)

Never heard of it before, but may give a book a go.
Today I read my daughter’s school reader about Helen Keller. Someone mentioned her on their blog the same day my daughter brought the book home, so I couldn’t resist finding out, who she was – amazing strong woman. Now I want to read her autobiography. I’m addicted to reading books

I have heard great things about the series but have been loathe to start on a new series. I have a bit of an addictive-obsessive side which takes over and I have to keep watching and it takes over my free time. But I might be able to cope with an 8 episode series! x

I have friends who rave about it. Is it violent? That’s the only thing that stops me from watching Game of Thrones. Outlanders sounds intriguing.
