Hi Naomi, speaking of stop motion, there is an amazing Russian animation artist Yuri Norstein who has done some extraordinary short animations of children’s stories. They are so haunting, beautiful, they make the usual children’s stuff look so crass. There aren’t many because it takes him years to make just one!

But I do have to say, I was gushing about Yuri Norstein to a Russian friend and he said “oh man, we grew up on that stuff and all we wanted was Mickey Mouse!”.
