Remember iPods? Antique iPhones without the networks... remember those things? 

I wasn't an early adopter but can I tell you, when I was given my first iPod that baby changed my life. Suddenly, my days had a soundtrack. Even something as mundane as walking to work became a swim in an ocean of my favourite music. 

But have you ever wondered what anybody else's soundtrack is? Tyler Cullen hit the streets of New York to open up the city's soundtrack. 
I want to get to know you. What's your soundtrack? What do you listen to on the way to work? When you work out? When you're writing? What else?

Yes, I have wondered about the soundtrack to people's lives! All the time. This is one of the reasons I liked the book High Fidelity so much, I liked how the songs were there to get him through stages of his life.

My soundtrack is all over the place. John Butler when I need inspiration. Paul Kelly on weekends. Kings of Leon on a Saturday morning. Ella Fitzgerald in the afternoons. Neil Young. Washington for housework. Ask me another day and you'd get a completely different list.

For a long time I used to watch my kids walking around with wires in their ears and wonder why. One day one of them asked me to listen to something and I was blown away. Awemazing!!! I've been hooked ever since. My soundtrack depends on the day and the activity -everything from classical to jazz to rock. In France I've discovered Zaz. Go to iTunes and listen to Je Veux. You'll want to play it all through your holiday and I think the girls will love it too.

My highlights:

1) Guy on bike that tries to ride off and nearly hits someone.

2)The Rastafarian who, of course, is listening to Buffalo Soldier!

As for my soundtrack. Well, that all depends on the situation. Anything from Handel's Messiah to Pink Floyd and Metallica. Though my favourite artists have to be Bowie and Dylan.

This is great- I work in New York and I wonder too! I do sound for musical theater, so when I am learning a new show, I tend to pick a heavy album that's totally different from it, and listen to it every day when I leave work- you know, to unprogram myself. I prefer mellow in the morning: Sarah Vaughn, Enigma, Kate Bush's aerial; heavier for driving: Sixx AM, Disturbed, My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters. For cleaning: anything with hooks and/or groove. For Writing: last playlist included The Knack, Iron Maiden, & Fountains of Wayne. What's yours?

This is one of my favourite topics to chew over. I wish I could surgically attach my iPod to my body so I could always have my soundtrack.
I like Regina Spektor for car trips, KD Lang for reading the paper, Gnarls Barkley and Vampire Weekend for the gym, Martha Wainwright and Pearl Jam for walking the dog.
