Art on fire

I had wanted to spend the evening last night writing a witty and clever blog post that would make you smile. Instead, I spent the night on my hands and knees sponging baby vomit off the floors, after spending the afternoon cleaning baby vomit off my baby and his pram and a goodly portion of myself, in the Emergency Department waiting area at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

It feels like my little boy is sick ALL THE TIME but the triage nurse told me yesterday that babies on average have 10 to 12 viruses in the first year of their lives. Seriously? No wonder babies cry! My baby is 11 months old and I don’t think we’ve clocked up 10 viruses yet, so I guess we’re doing well after all…

While he (and I) recover, take a look at this STUNNING video of artist Steve Spazuk who creates extraordinarily beautiful works of art, using fire.

Have you ever seen anything like THAT? Have a great weekend!

My goodness, Steve’s work is incredible, and again, it’s clear that he draws on a life’s passion, work, experience and craft in doing his art. Inspirational.
I’m sorry your little one is sick, and there was hospital time. Stressful. My youngest is 10 months and it feels like he’s been sick for a lot of the winter. Hoping we are coming out of it now, and heading into summer. I had no idea tat number of viruses is normal – yikes! You are doing such a terrific job Naomi – an ace mum, writer, artist and blogger. Sending strength and wellness vibes to you and yours x

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement Pia. And sending them right back to you! Love and health to your little one. It really does wear you down when they’re so sick doesn’t it. I don’t love summer but if the hot weather will burn away those viruses, I won’t complain!

I’m so sorry your wee hub is so ill. It’s awful to see them be sick when all we want to do is take good care of them! Hang in there, mama. Sending you all warm wishes that he’ll be on the mend soon…though maybe just in time for the next bug (sigh!). Building up the immune system, right?

Thank you for sharing this incredible artist and his work! That was such an inspiring video. I watched it with my family, and we were all amazed.

Thanks Jennifer – yes that’s what I keep telling myself: healthy immune system! (Although it can’t be all THAT healthy if he keeps getting sick…). Glad your family enjoyed the video. I’ve never seen artwork like this.

Aren’t you amazing indeed, to have managed to get anything up on your blog in the midst of all that! Poor baby boy and his mama. Hope he is on the mend x

Wow. What an amazing artist and ow appropriate using a feather to create feathers on his bird. I’ve never seen anyone create art by this method before. Beautiful.
